willing to buy Russian weapons
Iraq is interested in buying Russian weapons, said Wednesday Iraqi President Jalal Talabani after meeting with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"Of course we are interested in buying (Russian military) because it is cheap and reliable," said Talabani told reporters Russians.
Lavrov arrived in Baghdad on a working visit and also plans to meet with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, the president of Parliament, Usama al-Nuyaifi, the foreign minister, Hoshiyar Zebari, and the leader of the political block "Iraqi List, Iyad Allawi.
Nuri al-Maliki said earlier arms purchases from Russia were conditioned to the need to combat terrorism, defend the territorial integrity and safeguard homeland security.
